In 2011 Pluris, LLC designed built the first of its kind Membrane Bioreactor wastewater treatment facility in Onslow County. Commonly known as MBR, the technology allows greater protection to the sensitive coastal community. Pluris’s North Carolina Regional Manager Randy Hoffer said recently,
“As a longtime resident and wastewater operator, I have never seen the level of treatment MBR provides in protecting the environment. When we first constructed the facility we were using membranes down to 0.4 microns and earlier this year we even improved membrane treatment an order of magnitude greater with 0.04 microns. The water coming out of the facility looks just like drinking water and the fish we stock in a fish tank at the end of treatment prove that aquatic life thrives in it.”
The treated water can be reused for landscaping irrigation anywhere which reduces the pumping stress on Onslow County area drinking water aquifers.
