Pluris Wedgefield customer Russell May is a native of Florida, having spent most of his childhood years living on Merritt Island. A little over two years ago Russell became a Pluris Wedgefield customer when he decided to purchase a retirement home that would also provide a pleasant commute to his workplace in Oviedo. Russell said he chose Wedgefield because of the family neighborhood atmosphere, and the strategic location to downtown Orlando, the beaches, and family. A bonus for Russell is the home he picked backs-up to protected land with a permanent unobstructed view of Florida nature.
Pluris Regional Manager Joseph Kuhns and Customer Care Director Beverly Yopp recently had the pleasure of visiting with Russell at the Wedgefield Drinking Water Treatment Facility. During the visit, Joe provided a comprehensive tour of the water treatment process. The tour included a review of the facility’s computerized process monitoring system (“SCADA”), the step by step treatment process, including the new chlorine dioxide disinfection system, the Magnetic Ion Exchange system (“MIEX”), and the water softening system.
Due to his background Russell appreciated the detailed treatment process and the review of the facility. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida in Building Construction / College of Architecture and his career path has allowed him the opportunity to manage the construction of a manufacturing plant, radar facility, structures for the space program, and a variety of other projects. His only contact to a water treatment system was inside a US nuclear-powered attack submarine. He appreciated the opportunity to visit this type of facility especially since it related to his personal water service.
In Russell’s words, “I was amazed at the high-tech water treatment systems that were implemented since the Pluris acquisition in 2009. The quality of water they produce exceeds the water quality of many of the places I’ve lived in Florida. What they have done in Wedgefield is comforting. I envision that other municipalities and businesses will begin to use the Pluris Wedgefield water treatment process as a model for designing future systems. At Pluris Wedgefield, they did it right”.
