Millennials comprise an increasing number of people joining the work force and Pluris recognizes the value Millennials have contributed to its utilities. Several Pluris Millennials recently commented on their experience and reasons for choosing to work in the profession and excerpts are presented in the following.
I have always believed, and even more now as a Millennial that it’s my responsibility to help people and have a positive impact on the environment. I have always enjoyed computers and after entering the water and wastewater field I have found how technology is an integral part of insuring water can be delivered to customers safely and that wastewater can be treated to levels that will not threaten the environment.
My passion for the profession encourages me to recommend other Millennials to consider opportunities that the water and wastewater industry provides. It’s our planet and we are the next generation to insure drinking water and wastewater treatment technologies continue to advance.
I chose the water/wastewater/customer service profession because it was a good job employment opportunity and I wanted to try something new. Although I had no knowledge on water and wastewater utilities, the knowledge I have gained working at Pluris has been very beneficial for my personal understanding of utilities I pay for and the functionality of a utility company. As a Millennial, I believe Millennials want to contribute to the success of their company and that includes providing better service for their customers. I think Millennials are great at collaborating and getting everyone’s perspective to make better decisions.
The advice I would like to share with other Millennials is to consider all the skills we have in technology. We can easily educate people on how to utilize and benefit from technology to enhance the water/wastewater/customer service profession and a lot of people are unaware of how technology can help customers manage their water use on their smart phones and laptops.
I have lived in Pluris’ Florida service area and was fortunate to get a career in the water profession so close to home. As with most Millennials I am naturally comfortable with technology and the rapid pace in which it grows. Also, the ability we Millennials have to seamlessly adapt to technology allows our generation to rapidly research information which has helped me in preparing for and handling challenges every day.
I encourage Millennials to use the adeptness with technology we have, but to not neglect the information we can gain from experienced coworkers. I also believe in being a self-starter and demonstrating to others that I am serious in learning. I do believe that as a Millennial, I have something to offer the industry I have planned to be in for my career.
