Total Trihalomethanes (“TTHMs”) and Haloacetic Acids (“HAA5”) at Wedgefield continue to be near Non-Detect

January 2024

Pluris Wedgefield (“Pluris”) is pleased to announce that the disinfectant by-products, total tri-halomethane (“TTHM”) and Haloacetic Acids (“HAA5”) continue to be at or near non-detection limits in Wedgefield drinking water. The Federal Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) limit is 80 micrograms per liter and 60 micrograms per liter, for TTHM and HAA5s, respectively.

Presented in the following table are the latest Florida Department of Environmental Protection (“FDEP”) compliance analytical laboratory testing results performed on December 12, 2023.

TTHM and HAA5 Test Results in Micrograms per Liter (µg/l)
(the Federal EPA Stage II TTHM Limit is 80 µg/l and the HAA5 Limit is 60 µg/l)

The data continues to suggest that the conversion from chlorine to chlorine dioxide as the primary disinfectant has been a principal reason for the reduction of TTHM and HAA5, as chlorine dioxide, unlike chlorine does not create an environment for the formation of TTHM.

As always, any customers with questions or desiring to visit the water treatment plant facility are encouraged to contact Mr. Joe Kuhns, Regional Manager for Pluris. Mr. Kuhns will personally schedule a facility visit for any customer wanting to observe the chlorine dioxide treatment facility, as well as the entire drinking water treatment system. Mr. Kuhns can be reached via email at [email protected] or by telephone at (813) 526-0608.
